Legend of Thien Cung Cave

Visitors to Thien Cung Cave in Ha Long Bay will encounter the enchanting legend of this “heavenly cave in the underground.” In ancient times, after aiding the people in their battles against enemies, the Dragon King returned to his cave. That year, a severe drought plagued the land, leading to continuous crop failures. The people sought the Dragon King’s assistance, hoping he would bring rain.

Many brave souls volunteered to journey to the Dragon King’s cave, but none returned. Among them was a young couple who, undeterred by the hardships and dangers, resolved to find the Dragon King. Eventually, they had a daughter named May. As she grew, her beauty captured the heart of the Dragon Prince, who wished to marry her.

The wedding of May and the Dragon Prince was grandly celebrated for seven days and nights in the cave. In this joyous scene, dragons soared among the stalactites, baby elephants and lions danced together, and eagles spread their wings, accompanied by the presence of Nam Tao and Bac Dau. This vibrant celebration is immortalized on the cliffs within Thien Cung Cave.
